Leaf River Historical Society was founded March 9, 1995.  Its function is to collect, research, preserve, and display artifacts and documents that illustrate and reflect Leaf River area.  We believe that future generations will better understand their heritage because of this knowledge of the past.   Located in a former church built in 1895, the museum contains exhibits including a dog tread mill from the 1800's, military artifacts, farm and agriculture equipment, country school and railroad memorabilia and more.

Leaf River bank

Leaf River, Illinois State Bank was built in 1894. This photo, showing the west side of Main Street was taken about 1896. The bank survived until January 4th, 1937 when the assets were liquidated and the bank was closed. After it closed as a bank, it served as the post office, a feed store an insurance office and was then turned into apartments. The buildings beside the bank burned down in 2010.
